Oracle's Java 11 onward is paid for commercial use. But there are OpenJDK versions that are always free.

There are different vendors for that, for example:

https://adoptopenjdk.net

Android Studio contains an OpenJDK version by default.

There is no real difference, the paid versions just have special support I think. You don't have to pay for anything unless you download Oracle's paid JDK. If you use Android Studio, it comes with an embedded OpenJDK which is free.
